Dear Diary 2014, Week 5,

Week 5,   27.1.14 to 2.2.14

Pair of silk shoes, brocaded silk, England, about 1735

I have picked up two colours from the image to be my focus point.  - Ecru and Blue.

Ecru is a neutral color with a bit of the warmth of brown and the crisp, coolness of white. It takes on some of the attributes of stronger, warm or cool colors it accompanies.
Blue is a calming colour.   In many cultures blue is significant in religious beliefs. It is thought to bring bring peace, and is believed to keep the bad spirits away.  Blue conveys importance and confidence.  Words know to   represent various shades of the color blue are sapphire, azure, beryl, cerulean, cobalt, indigo, navy, royal, sky blue, baby blue, robin's egg blue, cyan, cornflower blue, midnight blue, slate, steel blue, Prussian blue.

The materials I have engaged are:
  • Coton Muslin
  • DMC Pearl 8
  • DMC Stranded cotton
  • Sheer lace
  • Binding
  • Card
The embroider technique I have sampled is a very loose interpretation of pulled thread work, accompanied by French knots. This sampler shows a technique I was lucky enough to learn a few years ago in an online class with  Karen Ruane

  1. Your interpretation of this is brilliant! I am enjoying looking at these so much Cherie... It's delightful to see what you have come up with for each one...

    1. Thanks Jillayne. This is one of my favourite so far.
